What's the Difference between Antique & Collectible?

Enjoy and Please Come Back

One of our visitors has asked that we provide information on antiques, and as usual we have responded.
We DO NOT recommend you purchase antiques over the web site unseen, so we have covered only informational type sites below. Use the Internet to gather information and find dealers you would consider doing business with -- then transact your business face-to-face.

Antiques, in general, covers an awful lot of territory. From a broad perspective we found four distinct categories: 1) antiques, 2) vintage, 3) old, and 4) collectible items. We found some of the more Internet popular areas to be antique appraisal, rings, clocks, old coins, old books, dolls, maps and appraisers.

One of the more interesting things we found is that different sites (and people) have different definitions of "antique". We happen to more or less agree with the following definition we found:

The definition of antique varies from source to source, product to product and year to year. However; here are some time test definitions of antique for you to consider.

An item which is at least 100 years old and is collected or desirable due to rarity, condition, utility, or some other unique feature. ...
antique (noun) -
1. any piece of furniture or decorative object or the like produced in a former period and valuable because of its beauty or rarity

You DO have your work cut out for you and you had better do tons of homework! If you are new to the subject, find a friend or local club that can help you get started -- they can even serve as "protectors" to see that you don't get cheated on your purchases.

With these and many other tools at your disposal, here are some general information sites you can use to get started:

We also found some very detailed information on antique furniture (antique chairs, bookcases, etc.) at these locations:

We borrowed this quote from the previous site because of it's interest:

Did you know... Before 1600 chairs were used only by the master and mistress of the house. Everyone else had to sit on stools or benches.

We listened, we care and we found information on antiques and collectibles you will enjoy.
